Weekend Getaway to Avon, Colorado!

Living in the south I have never truly experienced actual snow. So, when my friends suggested a weekend getaway to Colorado, I was like “Heck yeah!” For one, I was long overdue for a girls’ trip and two because I have always wanted to go on a ski trip. We decided on Avon, Colorado. Avon is about 8 miles from the town of Vail. Avon is a central location for all snow-oriented fun skiing, snow tubing, and snow mobiling. We got into town midday and was snowing!! The area was absolutely beautiful with the most amazing views I had ever seen.

Where we stayed

We stayed at the Club Wyndam Resort at Avon. If you’re traveling with a large group this resort is the way to go. We had a two bedroom, two bath condo. It included a large living room area and a full size kitchen. They were really good about observing Covid protocols. For instance, the hot tub area was available by appointment only, so we were able to have it all to ourselves. They also clean and sanitize the area in between each guest. This resort seemed to be centrally located to a lot of what the area has to offer. There are shops and food options within walking distance.

What we ate

There are so many restaurants in and around Avon for all types of tastes. Our first night in town we went casual and hit a local spot called Bob’s. They feature your typical bar foods like burgers, wings, and fries.

While were out the next day, we ate at JJ’s Tavern for lunch. The burgers were sooooo good! We were also able to grab some drinks before heading to Tube Hill.

For dinner we ate at Sauce on the Creek. It is a local Italian Restaurant that features handmade pizzas and some really delicious pasta options. They also have an extensive wine list to match with your dinner. I ended up getting the filet. It was perfectly cooked and tasted great.

What we did for fun

Our first full day in town we went snow tubing at Copper Mountain. It was a short drive from our resort. For one hour we were able to go and down the lanes. This was my favorite!!

Snowmobiling

On Saturday we went snowmobiling with Nova Guides. They have a shuttle that picks you up from your resort and takes you up to the camp site. It was about a half hour ride. Once we arrived we checked in, got our safety lesson, then hit the trails. The tour is about 2 hours long. It goes through White River National Forest at Historic Camp Hale, and we got to elevations of 12,500 feet! The views were breathtaking!! I was a little nervous at first driving the snowmobile, but once I got on the trail I was good!

This weekend was amazing! I definitely recommend visiting Avon if you’re looking for something new and fun. They have a ton of outdoor activities to try and the views are amazing!

Stay tuned for my next adventure!!
