Today we spent the afternoon at the King Cake Festival in New Orleans. Let me tell you it was delicious!! This was my first time attending the festival since it has started. The festival is held down in Champion Square and is hosted by Ochsner’s Hospital for Children, and the proceeds go towards the hospital. Admission to the festival is free, however you do have to purchase tickets to taste the king cakes. There are bakeries from all over New Orleans competing to see who has the fan favorite. This year there were over two dozen bakeries and vendors.
I only purchased 10 tickets, and half way through I realized I should have got more. There are so many choices!! There are savory and sweet combinations like hot sausage and cream cheese. I was not bold enough to try it but there was even a king cake burger. Yes, a king cake burger!! My absolute favorite out of all was the Pecan Pralines from Langenstein’s. A close second was the Gooey Ooey Berry from Cannata’s King Cakes. If your looking for a fun family filled afternoon this is a great event. There are tons of food trucks, live music, and of course all the king cake you can taste. I plan to attend next year!
